Sheet-fed CMYK label production on the OKI C651 / C844 (no white channel): media & tray, sheet imposition, driver color, preflight, and cut/finish after printing.

Purpose

The OKI C651 and C844 are sheet-fed CMYK LED/laser printers. There is no white toner channel and no roll path: you print label sheets (A4/A3/custom) and cut or die-cut them afterwards. This guide covers the sheet workflow in Label Studio Creator: media & tray, imposition, driver color, preflight, and finishing.

It suits office-to-light-production label runs on pre-die-cut label sheets or full sheets cut after printing.

1. Capture the sheet and job parameters

Sheet printing lives or dies on paper size and imposition accuracy. Record these before building the template:

  • Sheet size: A4, A3, SRA3, or custom (check the model's max — C844 handles up to banner lengths on bypass).
  • Label layout: pre-die-cut sheet grid (e.g. Avery-style) or full-bleed sheet to be cut/plotted.
  • Media type & weight: label stock, gloss, synthetic, heavy card.
  • Feed source: main tray for standard stock, bypass/manual for thick or synthetic media.
  • Margins: the unprintable edge (typically a few mm) — keep die-cut labels inside it.

2. Build the sheet template

New sheet document

Use File > New and pick a sheet/grid template that matches your die-cut sheet, or set a custom grid (rows, columns, pitch, margins).

Match the exact paper size

The document size, the driver paper size, and the physical sheet must all agree, or the grid drifts across the page.

Add crop / cut marks

For full-bleed sheets cut afterwards, enable crop marks so the guillotine or plotter has references.

Save per media

Keep one template per sheet size × label grid × media type so repeat jobs start correct.

3. Design the artwork (CMYK, no white)

Because there is no white channel, design for opaque or white media only — do not rely on white ink for clear stock on these models.

  • Work in CMYK; keep small text and barcodes in K-only for crisp edges.
  • Use Tools > Barcode Assistant and validate before printing.
  • Add bleed only if the sheet will be trimmed; pre-die-cut sheets need none.
  • Watch heavy solids — LED toner on gloss can scuff; test durability.
No white: for metallic or clear-film labels with white, use an OKI Pro (Pro1040 / PLAVI) instead — the C651/C844 are CMYK-only.

4. Driver & color settings

5. Preflight before the run

Layout check

Every label inside the printable margin; grid pitch matches the die-cut sheet exactly.

Barcode check

Syntax, check digit, quiet zone, and a scan of a single printed sheet.

Color check

ICC path consistent; K-only where it should be K-only; solids not over-inked.

Registration check

Print one sheet and confirm artwork aligns to the die-cut labels (front/back if duplex).

6. Print one sheet, then the stack

Always print one sheet first. Confirm alignment to the die-cut grid and color before committing the full stack of media.

7. Cut / finish after printing

Sheet output usually needs finishing. Match the method to the label type:

  • Pre-die-cut sheets: just peel — no cutting needed.
  • Full-bleed sheets: guillotine to size using crop marks.
  • Contour shapes: send to a cutting plotter (see the Cut Contour tutorial) with a registered cut path.

8. Common problems and fixes
