OKI Pro1040 / Pro1050 CMYK + White

A production tutorial for short-run roll labels with CMYK, white ink, underprint control, queue validation, and media waste reduction.

Purpose

This guide explains how to prepare a label job for OKI Pro1040 and Pro1050 style workflows in Label Studio Creator, with special attention to the white channel.

The main goal is to prevent failed long runs by validating artwork, media, white underprint, barcode quality, and production settings before release.

1. Decide the print intent

2. Create the roll label template

Start with the real label dimensions. Do not design a roll job on an A4 page unless the workflow is actually sheet-based.

  • Label width and length

  • Gap or black mark mode
  • Safe zone and bleed if used
  • Media profile and roll ID

3. Configure white ink in Label Studio Creator

Object white

Use this when a logo, text, pictogram, or decorative object must print in white. Enable Print in white on selected objects. Use thicker type for small white text.

White mask object

Use a shape as a dedicated white mask when the white layer is not identical to CMYK artwork. Enable Use object as white mask. Keep mask objects named and locked.

Generated underprint

Use generated white below CMYK artwork for transparent or dark media. Enable Generate underprint. Exclude objects that should stay transparent.

Choke / spread

Adjust the white shape to prevent visible white halos caused by registration shift. Use choke for smaller white. Use spread only when the CMYK edge needs support.

4. Understand the layer stack

5. Run preflight and proofs

Before sending a job to the printer, generate proof outputs and audit reports.

6. Create the production job ticket

7. Use queue hold / release

8. Print and inspect a short test

Never start with the full quantity. Print 3 to 10 labels first, especially when white underprint is active.

9. Update inventory and history

After production, update media consumption. This supports cost control and avoids accepting orders without enough stock.

  • Open Tools > Media Inventory.
  • Create or apply a consumption movement.
  • Use Sync SQLite to refresh inventory.
  • Check reorder alerts.
  • Keep the job in history for reprint.

10. Recommended workflow summary

Prepare

Create roll template, media profile, variable data, and white intent.

Validate

Run prepress, barcode, color/RIP, ink coverage, and white plate proofs.

Queue

Create a job ticket, hold the job, and release only after operator approval.

Produce

Print a short test, inspect white and barcode, then release the final quantity and update inventory.
